Welcome to FrantechOS!
We appreciate your purchase and hope we can do business with you for the years to come!
Before we get started, ensure that you have NX installed and ready to go:
NX client: http://www.nomachine.com/download-package.php?Prod_Id=601
First, let's open NX. Navigate to your Start Menu > Programs > NX Client for Windows > NX Client for Windows. the connection wizard will appear.
When you click next, you will be greeted by a window that has 'Session', 'Host' and a slider with your internet connection speed.
Fill in your Session first. We'll call it 'Frantech VPS'. Type that into the field, and tab down to Host. Fill in your VPS's IP that was given to you
in your welcome email, and leave the port at it's default '22'. you can change it once you get in if you like.
Click Next, and you will get a screen that asks you for sizes of the desktop and such. Leave the Unix alone, and change 'KDE' to 'GNOME' by
clicking the down arrow. The desktop area setting is a personal preference, and it can be changed if you don't like it. I personally use 1024x768.
Click 'Next'.
The final window is preferences only. I wouldn't check the second check box marked 'Advanced Options', but you can if you're feeling like customizing.
After exiting the wizard, you will get a login window. Your username when you first login is going to be 'root', and your password is the one you selected
when you signed up.
NOTE: PLEASE, for the sake of all that is holy, use a secure password! Frantech is NOT to be held responsible if your VPS was 'hacked' because you
chose an insecure password. A good password contains numbers, both lowercase and uppercase letters and at least one symbol.
After you click login, you should be greeted with a few windows that involve security. Make sure you allow NX through your Windows Firewall, and
allow the connection when it tells you your key is invalid.
Once you're done logging in, you will be greeted by a window that looks similar to this:
Select your branch (trunk is highly recommended) and a few things will happen. A few icons will appear on your desktop in NX, a few windows will flash through for Firefox, and a window for
Firefox will open. Follow the instructions in the firefox window carefully.
Sometime during this phase, you will get a pop-up from the desktop that tells you your server is compiled. This is the first step in running your server!
After you click next in Firefox, you will be asked to fill out a form which will grant you access to setup, modify and edit your SQL databases. Fill
in the form, again paying attention and making sure you select a secure password!
When you select a username and password and click next, you can click next again, FrantechOS will import a fresh eAthena database into your newly
created SQL account, in the next page, you can automatically download a login_athena.conf and inter_athena.conf (the two files that eAthena
uses to connect to your databases) that come with your selected username and password already in them. With this, you can close your Firefox Window,
you're done with that.
Take this time to explore! FrantechOS is essentially Linux. It is a CentOS build of Linux with tools, scripts and programs compiled into one OS specifically designed to help you run your server.
When you're done goofing around, go ahead and check out your desktop. I will briefly explain what each of these icons do.
Computer - Basically the 'My Computer' icon in Windows. Will take you to your computer, where you can access the file system.
root's home - Equivelent of 'My Documents' icon in Windows. Will open up a place where you can store things in your 'home' folder.
Update My Server - Use this when you want to download a fresh SVN from the eAthena SVN. None of your custom changes will be overwritten by using this button.
Stop My Server - Will automatically stop all the running eAthena servers on the VPS. Make sure your characters are all logged off!
Start My Server - Will open up three windows, and then put them into what's called a screen, which will run them in the background. Will start your server.
Restart My Server - Useful for when you need to add changes. Will issue a straight 'force restart' command to your servers.
Recompile My Server - Will issue a 'make clean' and 'make sql' to your servers, effectively recompiling them for use. You may need to do this everytime you
use 'Update my Server'
My Ragnarok Files - Takes you straight to Your ragnarok directory where you can edit and delete/add things to your server.
A few minor notes:
*By default, your VPS does not come with an FTP server installed. You can use an FTP client like Filezilla to 'SFTP' to your VPS, which is a whole lot safer.
SecureFTP uses the SSH port and protocol to FTP into your server so you can transfer files. When you're using SFTP, you need to select 'SFTP' in the
'servertype' and the port number is 22. You can then use FTP to drag and drop files to your VPS.
*Firefox installed on your VPS comes with a host of great bookmarks in it to make finding stuff a cinch. Feel free to use Firefox on your VPS like you would use
it on your home machine. that's what it's there for!
If you require help, drop by the IRC channel (there's a link for webchat in Firefox on your VPS) or fill out a ticket and one of your trained staff
will get back to you within 24 hours with a solution.
thanks for choosing Frantech!
